Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad launched the National Policy on Industry 4.0, known as Industry4WRD at the MITI Tower today. The ceremony was organised in collaboration with the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and was attended by over 1,000 participants including Cabinet Ministers, Chief Ministers, Ambassadors, senior Government officials, industry leaders, academicians and members of the public.
The National Policy on Industry 4.0 is Malaysia’s response to the call for digital transformation of the manufacturing sector and its related services.
Besides identifying the four specific overarching goals of continuous growth in manufacturing GDP (to RM392 billion), increasing national productivity (by 30% per person), creating high skill employment opportunities in the manufacturing sector (18% to 35%) and raising innovation capabilities and competitiveness, Leiking shared about the Readiness Assessment Guidelines which businesses can use to assess where they are currently at, the gaps that exist and how they can be addressed via targeted intervention.
The policy outlines 13 broad strategies for Malaysia to embark on a journey that will transform the manufacturing industry landscape over the next decade.
Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Darell Leiking said this will further elevate the nation’s competitiveness and productivity.
